Location: Henderson, CO

Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm; and available before and after business hours occasionally to assist the logistics team in critical situations

Physical Requirements: Physical ability to walk around the plant, operate routine office equipment, speak and hear via telephone, make presentations

The Buyer is a purchasing and inventory expert who is the key individual responsible for managing the supply chain of all purchases at Birko, including but not limited to chemicals, packaging, and MRO materials. The primary responsibility is to provide a continuous supply of materials to Production in order to meet demand while maintaining cost-effective inventory levels. This person is a critical tactical Operations Team member. 


  • Issues purchase orders for raw materials, packaging and other miscellaneous items needed in manufacturing from vendors  
  • Monitors inventory levels, procurement, receipt, and storage of raw materials
  • Analyzes purchasing reports to identify material requirements and places orders to support customer requirements
  • Maintains accurate vendor pricing in the ERP system  
  • Expedite materials, help facilitate OTD, and ensure accuracy of material delivery dates
  • Occasional interaction outside of business hours with Logistics team
  • Provides input in the preparation of the Vendor Scorecard Program 
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of purchasing RFQs   
  • Champions projects to improve cost, quality, and delivery
  • Develops, implements, new and/or existing systems and procedures in respective area 
  • Serves as corporate liaison in the account management of key suppliers 
  • Develops and reports on departmental KPIs
  • Participates in ISO system maintenance and continuous improvement

  • 2-4 years’ experience in bulk raw material purchasing; evaluating market pricing and understanding pricing trends; chemical purchasing preferred
  • BS degree in Supply Chain Management preferred
  • Detail oriented with ability to execute procedures consistently and efficiently.
  • Familiar with Enterprise Resource Planning systems and processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV a plus
  • Six-Sigma, LEAN, or other manufacturing operations optimization training or certifications a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in diverse teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to set priorities taking into account short and long-term needs of the business
  • Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to walk around plant, climb steps, bend/maneuver, operate common office equipment
  • Valid state driver’s license
